Artist’s Background
Cerelle Alborn started her journey as an artist when she was very young, being drawn to recreate the world around her and represent her visions of the awesome spectacle of life. She has nurtured some of that childlike innocence and awe for the physical beauty of our world and enveloped her deep respect for life with metaphor and spiritual symbolism. Cerelle approaches her paintings with the belief that “Spirituality is contained within the beauty of creation itself.”
Cerelle focuses on the same influences that gave us the inspirational art of the classics and brings them into our era. The timeless ideals and emotions of humanity are expressed with a unique interpretation while incorporating the techniques, knowledge, perspective and flair of a modern painter. In her interpretations, we find the universal language of color and beauty, and the expression of symbols that are universally embedded in the human experience.
Artist’s Statement
Amplifying the small voice inside that inspires the composition, my exploration of the dual nature of humanity suggests a spiritual and physical world. Intrigued with the beauty of the human form, my work aspires to touch the common thread that weaves through the collective consciousness of humanity. Rendered through realistic interpretation with a contemporary flair, these figurative forms are metaphors that invite spiritual understanding with themes directed towards a higher truth; therefore, something that inherently speaks of beauty, goodness, and an underlying principle separate from prejudice and opinion.
Conditioning by the various media has ultimately stereotyped the human form as an object of exploitation or a sexual icon. This in turn has divided Western culture into three groups of how the physical body is viewed: Traditional Greek influence—the body was not only beautiful, but also represented spiritual perfection; Victorian influence—nudity was not allowed because it was considered dirty, and what I like to call Post Victorian—continuing through our generation of contemporary thought where everything is dirty, but it’s okay! Within society today, all these groups exist simultaneously and in various combinations. This in turn subjects art, the artist, and the very act of painting to the scrutiny of the individual’s judgment and perspective, not necessarily in conjunction with the concept of the artist.
Conceptually, figurative forms are metaphors that invite spiritual interpretations and analysis; therefore, being conscious of the contemporary climate, my work manifests the ideals found in classic art redefined for the new millennium. The physical body is a temporary and ever changing covering, a veil that conceals the permanent spirit that is the true individual. My purpose is to entice the audience to look deeper into my composition and get past their initial reaction, either attraction or repulsion to the nude figure and give them a glimpse of the inner self. In the same way, we can look past our physical attributes and limitations and realize the significance of the soul transcending our physical being and appreciate the universal underpinnings of the human spirit.
